Our story
The Southern School for Advanced Studies (S.A.S.) is a scholarly institution dedicated to developing innovative, research-based interventions in higher education. We offer thematic and modular courses in humanities, social sciences and science studies, moving beyond the fixities of spatial and disciplinary silos.
We provide summer/winter schools and internships; curate workshops, seminars, and forums, facilitating meaningful dialogue and collaboration between students and subject experts. Our initiative also includes a tailored mentorship program that guides emerging scholars to find pathways to achieve their academic pursuits.
Our course content and pedagogical practices are designed to cultivate intellectual curiosity and critical engagement. We aim for an environment of integrative education with thinking and co-learning at its core, where ideas are refined through dialogue and shared inquiry.
Director’s Note
Over the past few years, our team at S.A.S. has developed unique courses that open doors for scholars to engage with foundational principles across diverse disciplines. These courses allow students to develop a deep and critical understanding by integrating multiple pedagogical practices.
Our faculty, joining us from leading universities worldwide, brings in expertise and academic knowledge. Their diverse backgrounds contribute to a rich multidisciplinary environment reflected in our innovative teaching, assessment styles, and active scholarly engagement. We ensure that our students benefit from a broad and comprehensive learning experience.
We encourage an academic culture that foregrounds critical thinking, effective communication, and a lifelong passion for learning. We invite students to take full advantage of the academic and personal growth opportunities available at S.A.S.

A curriculum of curiosity
Our co-learning method has transformed the classroom into a vibrant, collaborative space. By encouraging students to learn from one another and not just from the faculty, we foster teamwork that deepens their understanding of critical concepts. This approach has cultivated a sense of shared responsibility for learning.
Abdul Majeed OP, Resource Person SAS,
The students were highly informed and asked a series of exciting and thought-provoking questions that enriched our discussions and got me thinking about various nuanced aspects of the subject. Their curiosity and depth of understanding highlighted the importance of such dialogues in fostering a more inclusive and educated community.
Noel Maryam George, Resource Person DIS
Integrating presentations and project-based assessments into our curriculum has significantly enriched the learning experience. These methods offer a more holistic evaluation than traditional exams while equipping students with vital skills in communication, creativity, and technology. It’s been inspiring to witness how this approach helps students develop both academically and professionally.
